Our Dentist
Dr. Emery Bland, DMD
Dr. Emery Bland was born and raised on the Sunshine Coast and after many years of schooling and travelling, he graduated from UBC Dentistry and moved back home. Shortly after, he was lucky enough to meet his beautiful wife Genelle, who also works as a dental hygienist in the office. Emery was honoured to eventually take the reigns from his parents, who have worked in dentistry for 50 years.
Emery sincerely enjoys the diversity of being a general dentist and loves interacting with people. He finds reward in getting his patients out of discomfort, restoring their chewing function, and providing a little glimmer to their smile. He truly feels privileged to be able to provide the service he does.
At home, you will find Emery at the bottom of a dog pile under his two boys, Carter and Blake. He loves cooking for them and watching them grow and change every day. Emery believes in the importance of overall health so you will always find him running the streets and trails of the beautiful Sunshine Coast.
Meet Our Hygienists.
Genelle Bland, RDH
Genelle was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. She completed her bachelor’s degree in human kinetics at UBC and her dental hygiene diploma at Camosun College. Genelle is a very skilled, educated, and caring dental hygienist who pays attention to each individual patients needs. Her education has helped her establish a strong passion and understanding of the link between oral and systemic health.
Marrying Emery in 2014 brought Genelle over to the beautiful Sunshine Coast. It’s a wonderful small community to raise a family. Out of the office, family life keeps her very busy. She enjoys watching her boys, Carter and Blake, grow and discover new activities. Winter months are spent the slopes as a family, and the warm summer weather has them enjoying and exploring the local beaches.
Mary Findlay, RDH
Mary’s dental life started when, as an infant, her dad entered dental school at McGill University in Montreal. After returning to Vancouver Dr. Findlay had a dental office in Burnaby where the family of 5 kids grew up. While in junior high Mary did a job study on the field of dental hygiene. After completing first year science at UBC, the faculty of dentistry accepted Mary in the second class of its new dental hygiene program. Graduating in 1971 with an RDH, Mary moved to Gibsons to join Don and, with him, spent the next 50 years providing oral care in the community and having 3 children. Along the way Mary obtained a degree in dental hygiene (BDSc)from UBC. Mary has a passion for health care and is dedicated to helping others.
Beth Robertson, RDH
Beth was born and raised on the Sunshine Coast. She moved to Vancouver in 2011 and also began travelling, South East Asia being a particular favourite.
Once returning from travelling, Beth attended the Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene and graduated with high honours in 2017.
The Sunshine Coast was always home, and she moved back in 2018 and started at our office. When she’s not working you can find her with her husband, daughter and Louie their French bulldog exploring the local trails and beaches.
Carmen Hartwell, RDH
Carmen is originally from Surrey, BC. She completed her Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene at the University of Alberta. She is passionate about the relationship between oral health and the health of the whole body, and the effects each one can have on the other through systemic diseases, the immune system, inflammation, and nutrition.
Carmen moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2020. She loves getting outside and exploring new places with her husband, Chris. She enjoys hiking, camping, canoeing, good food, and music.
